Caulfield Cup Day is the unofficial start of the spring carnival and the first big test of the season's transport plans. Caulfield Racecourse sits tight against the station and the shopping strip, the surrounding streets go to resident-permit and clearway restrictions on race day, and the small on-course car parks fill fast. A chauffeured car drops your group at the gate, parks off-site, and is back at an agreed point after the last — while everyone else is working out how to get across the level crossing.
Caulfield on race day
The racecourse is boxed in by the rail line, Kambrooka Road and the Station Street shops. Race-day parking restrictions come into force across the residential grid, and the level crossing works turn a five-minute drive into twenty. We approach from the Glen Eira Road side and set down at the closest gate to your enclosure — the Members, the Park or a corporate space in the Rose Garden.
The eastern-suburbs day
Caulfield Cup draws heavily from the inner south-east — Toorak, Malvern, Armadale, Brighton, Glen Iris. For those groups the trip is short but the parking is the problem, so the car earns its keep at both ends of the day rather than on distance.
