Mayfair Limousines has driven 1,692 jobs across Melbourne between September 2024 and October 2026. We took the anonymous booking records (date, time, car, group size and occasion, with no customer details) and looked for patterns. Some confirmed what every chauffeur already knows. A few surprised us. Journalists, wedding planners and venues are welcome to use these figures with a link back to this page.
Key findings
More than half of all limo jobs in Melbourne (53%) happen on a Saturday, and nearly three in four (73%) fall on a Friday or Saturday.
The single busiest day in two years was Saturday 8 November 2025, Stakes Day weekend, with 25 cars out. Melbourne Cup Day itself, four days earlier, had just 3.
December is the busiest month of the year, ahead of November. July is the quietest, with less than a third of December’s bookings.
Hummers account for 71% of all bookings. For weddings, the White Hummer was booked more often than the Rolls Royce.
The average group is 11 people. Hens groups are bigger, averaging 14.
Grade 6 graduation limos have become a December tradition: 28 of the 30 graduation jobs we drove were in December, mostly midweek.
Saturday is everything
Saturday accounts for 53% of jobs, Friday 20%, and Thursday 9%. Sunday is surprisingly quiet at 8%, and Monday to Wednesday together make up less than 10%. For anyone planning a wedding, formal or party, the practical takeaway is simple: Saturdays in spring and summer book out first. A Friday or Sunday booking usually gives you a wider choice of cars.
Pickup times cluster in the late afternoon. 5pm and 6pm are the two busiest pickup hours, when weddings head to receptions and nights out begin. About 9% of jobs start between 9pm and 3am.
Cup Day is not the busiest day of the Carnival
You might expect Melbourne Cup Day to be the peak of the year for limos. It isn’t. In 2025 we drove 3 jobs on Cup Day (Tuesday 4 November) and 25 on Saturday 8 November, the weekend of Stakes Day. That Saturday also carried weddings, formals and birthday parties on top of race-day groups. The whole Cup week, from 1 to 8 November, added up to 43 jobs.
Race-day groups book heavily in November: 25 of the 33 race-day jobs in our records fell in that month. See our Melbourne Cup transport guide.
The year in limo bookings
Across both years the order of busiest months was December, November, March, October and February. December is driven by a stack of occasions in the same few weeks: weddings, grade 6 and year 12 graduations, and work Christmas parties. Winter is quiet, with July the slowest month and June close behind. School formals are the exception: August was the most common formal month in our records.
Weddings: Hummers beat the classics
Weddings were the most common occasion we could identify, at 145 jobs. They cluster in December, January and November, and 65% are on a Saturday. The most-booked wedding car was the White Hummer, followed by the Rolls Royce Tribute and the Black Hummer 6x6. A big part of the appeal is bringing the whole bridal party along in one car. A wedding booking averages about three hours. See wedding car hire.
Hens, birthdays and graduations
Hens groups are the biggest of any occasion, averaging 14 people, and 31 of the 32 hens jobs we identified were on a Saturday. Birthdays peak in October. And one occasion surprises most people: the grade 6 graduation. Twenty-eight of the 30 graduation jobs in our records fell in December, usually on a weeknight, with an average group of 11 children travelling together to the dinner or disco.
How far ahead people book
For bookings that started as a website enquiry, the median gap between enquiry and job was 38 days, and the average was about ten weeks. Weddings and formals are booked months ahead; birthdays and nights out are often booked within a few weeks. For a Saturday in November or December, earlier is better.
About this data
Figures come from Mayfair Limousines’ own booking records: 1,692 completed jobs from 6 September 2024 to 15 October 2026, across Melbourne and regional Victoria. Records were analysed in aggregate only, with no customer information used. The occasion was recorded or could be identified for about one in five jobs, so occasion figures describe those jobs. Group size was recorded for 1,233 jobs. Lead time is based on 48 bookings that could be matched to a website enquiry. Media enquiries: info@mayfairlimousines.com.au.
