New Year's Eve is the hardest night of the year to move around Melbourne. The CBD closes to traffic for the fireworks, public transport is free but packed, and from about 11pm rideshare either shows a two-hour wait or a four-times surge — if a driver accepts at all. Groups that plan ahead book a car in November. A chauffeured Hummer or stretch limousine collects the group before the night starts, runs between the party, the vantage point and the after, and is genuinely there for the trip home while everyone else is stranded.

November, or earlier. New Year's Eve is the first night of the year to sell out for us — the larger Hummers and stretch limos go weeks ahead, and there is no availability at all in the last few days of December.
Can the car get into the city for the fireworks?
